E-standards for Training
Agreement on technical standards – ‘E-standards’ – for e-learning content and systems supports the creation of e-learning environments that are more compatible, safe, efficient, and dependable. This stimulates innovation and the development of products and services, while reducing duplication of effort, unnecessary costs, and complexity. The training sector benefits greatly from the use of agreed standards.
In February 2006, the National Senior Officials Committee (NSOC) agreed to adopt e-standards ratified by the E-standards Experts Group (EEG), a representative body with expert membership drawn from every jurisdiction and major national initiatives. The EEG is chaired by the Victorian FLAG member, Rodney Spark.
E-standards underpin access to training and resources, increase participation and collaboration, and support interoperability across e-learning platforms deployed in the national VET sector.
In particular, e-standards have supported the development of LORN (designed to be the major source of e-learning and assessment resources for the national training system), E-portfolios and Flexible Learning Toolbox resources to increase the portability and recognition of accredited training qualifications.
