Intellectual Property and Copyright
The field of intellectual property and copyright is becoming increasingly important to the Flexible Learning Advisory Group’s (FLAG) work on a strategic level, with the rapid development of learning objects and Flexible Learning Toolboxes in vocational education and training (VET), and their collection within repositories as part of LORN. LORN is designed to be the major source of e-learning and assessment resources for the national training system.
To assist in the development of resources, FLAG, through the Australian Flexible Learning Framework (Framework) has made available the Copyright Kitchen, a continuously updated resource guiding developers and users of copyrighted content through the relevant laws and requirements affecting them.
As part of the development of LORN, a licencing system for learning objects and resources is currently being developed as part of an online transaction model ensuring that content downloaded is appropriately licenced for its intended use, thereby supporting the sharing of content among training providers. Through FLAG’s work, appropriate e-standards are also in place to facilitate the management of intellectual property.
