Strategic Policy Advice

With responsibility for the strategic implementation of information and communication technology (ICT) in Australia’s vocational education and training (VET) sector, the Flexible Learning Advisory Group (FLAG) plays a central role in framing advice on national policy areas relevant to VET.

This work advocates for, and highlights, the role e-learning can play in response to changing workforce demographics, the shift towards more skilled occupations, and the impact of technology on business operations and the economy as a whole.
FLAG’s strategic policy advice positions VET e-learning policy within this broader agenda to support focused action across the policy spectrum.
FLAG sustains high-level engagement with those stakeholders who contribute to shaping the broader VET agenda. It advises the National Senior Officials Committee (NSOC) which represents the CEOs of state and territory training authorities and itself advises the Ministerial Council for Tertiary Education and Employment (MCTEE).
Through its advice to the Australian Information Communication Technology in Education Committee (AICTEC), FLAG also connects national VET e-learning policy with the Australian Government’s Digital Education Revolution. This advice informs AICTEC’s own advice to the Ministerial Council for Education, Early Childhood Development and Youth Affairs (MCEECDYA).
These policy mechanisms also have significant input to the Participation & Productivity agenda of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG).
As Australia’s education and training response evolves to meet emerging economic circumstances, so too will FLAG’s engagement and consultation with a broader range of bodies relevant to its agenda. These include Skills Australia, the National Quality Council, and other national bodies as determined by FLAG.
